ABOUT THE JURY
Evan Sheets: Sr. Urban Planner City Design Studio, Dallas
Evan Sheets is a senior urban designer at the Dallas City Design Studio where he works on a variety of urban design projects collaborating with developers, design professionals, community stakeholders, city staff and elected officials. He also manages the newly enacted Urban Design Peer Review process which provides urban design guidance for both public a private development in the city of Dallas. He received both his BS in Architecture and Masters of Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington.
J.P. Casillas: Architect and Landscape Architect, SWA Group, Dallas
Jean Pierre graduated with an MLA and MARCH degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he received the Eleanore T. Widenmeyer prize for Excellence in Design and Synthesis of Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. He has obtained experience with multiple architectural and landscape architecture firms in New York, Madrid, and Puerto Rico. Jean Pierre was a critic and lecturer for graduate and undergraduate courses at the school of architecture in both the UPR and the PUCPR Universities in Puerto Rico. He is very interested in interweaving landscape and architecture design through the utilization of graphic and digital media as a tool to generate programs, patterns, and spaces.
Nan Ellin: Dean of the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs, University of Texas at Arlington
Nan Ellin is Dean of the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) at the University of Texas at Arlington. Ellin holds a PhD from Columbia University in Urban Design and her books include Good Urbanism, Postmodern Urbanism, Architecture of Fear, Integral Urbanism, and Phoenix: 21st-Century City (with Edward Booth-Clibborn). Her writings have been translated into 13 languages. Ellin was the driving force behind canalscape that has been leveraging the ancient canal system in metropolitan Phoenix by introducing vital urban hubs where canals meet major streets. She is grateful to be in Dallas at this time and have the opportunity to co-create with this incredibly talented community
Sean Fitzgerald: Deep Ellum Community Association, Dallas
Sean is a Deep Ellum-based environmental and fine art photographer, and former president of the Deep Ellum Community Association. He is currently working on projects to document and celebrate the beauty and diversity of the Dallas’ urban Trinity River ecosystem and the vanishing Blackland Prairie.
Peter Simek: D Magazine, Dallas
Peter Simek is the arts editor for D Magazine, where he manages, edits, and serves as the primary movie critic and reporter for FrontRow. Before coming to D Magazine, Simek launched the well-loved, if short-lived, Renegade Bus, an online journal that brought out-of-the-box perspectives to Dallas life and culture. He also wrote for D Magazine and D CEO on topics ranging from soccer hooligans and insurance detectives to the pedestrian friendliness of the Dallas Arts District. Simek covered Dallas City Hall; helped launch Oak Cliff People; and wrote about movies, classical music, and opera while on the staff at People Newspapers.
